The Arc of Tuscaloosa County has a very successful community-based employment program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our workers are skilled, reliable and motivated. They don't just need a job; they want a job! The Arc has contract arrangements with companies who need supervised work crews.

Individual Placement:

Many area companies employ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who become indispensable members of their workforce. Arc staff works with prospective employers to find the right job candidate to meet their needs. Though the individual is on the company's payroll and receives company benefits once hired, an Arc-paid employment support specialist, or job coach, trains the new employee until they meet all job requirements. The job coach then stays connected to the employer and employee, perhaps on a weekly basis or as more training is necessary.

The Arc supports workers who are employed directly by area companies in many kinds of work including: food service, office support, custodial, retail stocking, assembling, and customer service.

Placement and Training:

Arc staff will recommend qualified job candidates for your consideration. We provide on-site training and supervision at no additional cost to you. In the case of individual placements who you hire, our coaches remain on the job with the individual for a period of time to ensure a successful transition and quality assurance. Our commitment to your business continues throughout the employee's service to your company. If you engage teams or crews of Arc workers through contract, Arc supervisors remain with the workers.

Because each company's personnel needs are different, our Palk Enterprises and PESE Centers will work with you to determine your specific job requirements and we then tailor our services to fulfill those expectations.

Volunteer
